On a seemingly ordinary day, you wake up, drink your coffee and go about your business. However, you find a strange wooden box outside your home. It holds your destiny: the answer to the question of how much time you have left to live. From luxury homes in the suburbs to tents in the desert, every person on every continent receives the same box. In an instant, the world is in a collective panic. Where did they come from? What do they mean? Is there any truth in what they promise? As society splits and unites, is filled with prejudice and looks for a way out, each person faces a confusing choice: do they want to know how much time they have been given? And what will they do with this knowledge? The Yardstick depicts the dawn of a new world through a group of eight characters whose decisions and destinies are intertwined: best friends united by common dreams; pen pals who find support in each other; a couple who think they have no time to rush; a doctor who cannot save himself; and a politician whose box becomes a powder keg and changes everything.
